Bayanihan- The Filipino Spirit

Growing up  in the province, on the weekends, I always see men in our neighborhood, helping another family transporting their nipa hut home to another location. On other occassions, you will see group of women on a cottonfield helping another family harvesting their crop or on the ricefield, cornfield etc. I personally experience joining one of these back then. Bayanihan is truly a spirited team work.

Bayanihan, derived from "bayan" which means community and "bayani" which means hero, is an act where you are voluntarily helping without expecting anything in return. Therefore, Bayanihan means kindness and emphaty.

These Filipino values never fails to show especially during times of calamities. We, Filipinos, gather together  to help, to find ways to help those who are affected in any form and kind. As a matter of fact, in the province, when we see a neighbor in need, it feels like a crime to just watch and do nothing. We are alway there to help in any form we can.

Bayanihan is one Filipino culture that I am very proud off. It lifts spirit and shows that we are human who is made for each other.
